Using LED Replacement Bulbs

You may be growing frustrated with the electric bill being so high at the end of every month, but unsure of how to reduce your energy intake. Some things, like your computer or television, you can’t do without. It is possible that LED replacement bulbs can take the place of your fluorescent ones in order to consume less energy over the course of time, thus saving you money.

Most people think of television displays and computer monitors when it comes to the use of light-emitting diodes. In reality, however, LED technology has been widely used for thousands of applications in the industrial world. It has only recently reached the hands of the average consumer because it has become easier to produce and therefore less expensive to buy.

But making the transition into the future is not without some catches. First, you have to establish the polarity of your fixtures in order to determine if LED bulbs will be compatible, since all models are universally negative. If are operating on positive polarity, you will need to shop around for units that come with a polarity converter, otherwise you will have made a useless investment.

Also be aware that the performance of LED is based on temperature regulation, so outdoor models can be especially prone to failure and short service lives. If you plan on replacing your floodlights with LED lamps, ensure that they come equipped with heat sinks in their housing units, or some other method of heating or cooling during the winter and summer months.
